Fiscal sponsorship FAQ
What is Fiscal Sponsorship?
Fiscal sponsorship is a contractual arrangement in which a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization offers its legal and tax-exempt status to another group for a project or activity related to the mission of the nonprofit organization. It is typically not a fundraising source, but a platform that may handle administrative support in addition to dispersing funds that the project-owner raises.
Are there fees associated with sponsorship?
Sponsoring organizations nearly always charge fees to cover administration costs of the program. Some charge a flat fee while others charge a percentage of what is donated to the project or organization.
Does my project qualify for fiscal sponsorship?
Each Fiscal Sponsorship org is different. Many have an extensive application process to identify projects that advance a mission or educational purpose. A sponsored projects’ activities may be required to be completed in a certain place or by a certain deadline. The Arts & Business Council can sponsor sole proprietorships or single-member LLCs that meet all other eligibility requirements. We will not manage funds on behalf of for-profit corporations (S and C corps) or S, C, or P classification LLCs.
